Cochrane RCMP investigating theft and assault in Springbank

Cochrane RCMP are investigating an assault and theft that took place in west Rocky View County earlier today. The two suspects remain on the run.

Cochrane RCMP are investigating an assault and theft that took place in west Rocky View County earlier today.

According to the detachment, at approximately 9:50 a.m., Cochrane RCMP officers were dispatched to a reported theft at a Springbank residence. 

According to the RCMP's press release, the victim had been working in his garage and went inside his home briefly. When he returned, he discovered a suspect had just stolen items from his garage.

"The suspect got into a waiting vehicle with another male suspect inside," the release stated. "A confrontation then occurred in which the victim was bear sprayed and dragged a short distance as the vehicle fled the scene."

The victim sustained minor injuries. He was treated by EMS on scene and was released.

RCMP officers from Cochrane, Stoney Nakoda, Rocky View County, and the RCMP Alberta Traffic Unit (ATU) responded and continue to investigate the incident. With additional assistance from the Calgary Police Service HAWC helicopter and Tsuu T’ina Police Service, an extensive search was conducted, but the suspects were not located.

The suspect vehicle is described as a red 2017 Audi Q3, with Alberta licence plate PTY518. This vehicle was reported stolen out of Turner Valley, Alta.

The first suspect is described as a male aged 18 to 20, standing 5'9" with a heavy build. He has a round face and black hair, and was wearing a green traffic vest. He was who was reportedly driving the vehicle.

The second male suspect, who was in the passenger seat, was wearing a similar green traffic vest.

"It is believed these suspects could be armed," Cochrane RCMP stated. "If you see them, please call 911 and do not approach them."

Cochrane RCMP continue to investigate this incident and are asking anyone with video surveillance in the area of Crooked Pond Creek and Lott Creek Drive in Rocky View County, between 9:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. on Sept. 23, 2022, to call Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000 or your local police.
