Bisons drop final regular season game to South leading Buffaloes

The Airdrie CFR Bisons lost their final regular season game of the 2023-2024 season to the Calgary Buffaloes at Ron Ebbesen on Feb. 24 8-0. The South Division leading Buffaloes netted five goals in the second period to rout the Bisons on the night when Airdrie's seven graduating players were acknowledged by friends, family, and fans.

Despite the loss, the Bisons finished the regular season in second place in the South Division with a record of 22-14-2, and secured a first-round playoff bye. Finishing just one point above the Calgary Flames and Calgary Royals, the Bisons now get to enjoy a break before their playoff hunt commences.

Before the game the Bisons took a moment to celebrate their graduating players. Team Captain Adrein Fox, Assistant Captains Ben Luterbach and Nathan Maloney, and Jack Drake, Trey Mueller, Devon Barody, and Mitchell Kathler received applause from the home crowd before their final regular season minor hockey game began.

With the first-round bye, the Bisons first playoff opponent and schedule is yet to be decided. Depending on how the first-round plays out, the Bisons could square off against the Calgary Royals, Calgary Northstars, Calgary Flames, or the Red Deer Optimist Chiefs.
